Books and Courses

Gurdjieff books by Ian Phillips Lawrence commenced with a 'Training for Leadership' manual entitled 'The Alpha Man'.(1988).

This manual was sold privately to clients of  The Institute and through Watkins Books - as it was based on Gurdjieff. Although only produced in at temporary bound form copies come onto the second hand market from time to time.

The Institute of Universal Energies had by this time launched The Diploma Course in Gurdjieff Studies and found a need for a comprehensive introduction manual covering all Gurdjieff's main ideas.  This was produced in a unique format (size 42cm by 30cm) with each major study of 21 illustrated. The paper chosen allowed the illustrations to be coloured in with  pencils - thus following a learning method first pioneered by Rudolph Stainer in the early 20th century. This book was first published in 1999 and was entitled 'Gurdjieff: Meditation and Coluring Book'  ISBN 0956831. This book is available from Watkins Books or from the publisher through Amazon. For costs and availability go on their websites.

Problems encountered in Gurdjieff Groups run by Ian Phillips Lawrence brought about the publication of a second volume on Gurdjieff published by The Institute in 2000. This was 'Gurdjieff: The Good Obyvatel'   ISBN 0 95368 311 7. This book is available from Watkins Books or from the publisher through Amazon. However keen students of Gurdjieff's ideas are they are very often short of  'experience of life' - and The Good Obyvatel presents a unique method of fast life experience that can solve this problem. This book is also the manual for IUE's  'GO' Training offered to clients.
